The Other Half of the Equation: Your Wrestling Blueprint is Here
Alright team, Coach Dane here.
For the past several weeks, we've been relentlessly focused on building the engine and the armor in the weight room. We've been forging the raw athletic materials: the strength, the power, and the conditioning.
But I get a question all the time, and it's the right one to ask: "Coach, this is great, but how does it connect to the mat? What should my actual wrestling practice look like?"
Today, I'm giving you the other half of the equation.
I've just published a new, permanent resource page on our site called "The Wrestling Blueprint." You can find it in the main navigation menu.
Let me be blunt: This isn't just a list of moves. This is a distilled curriculum based on the 80/20 rule. After years of coaching and competing, I've identified the 20% of drills, positions, and fundamentals that lead to 80% of the success at the highest levels of the sport.
This is the stuff that NCAA champions master. If you can master what's on this page, you can compete with anyone in the country.
The Philosophy: Win Every Position
The core philosophy is simple: we learn to dominate every single position a wrestling match presents. We are not "specialists." We are complete wrestlers. This means we have a plan for:
- The hand-fight.
- The shot and the finish.
- Getting out from bottom, fast.
- Controlling an opponent from top.
- Winning the chaotic scrambles.
- And putting someone on their back when the opportunity arises.
The new page breaks down the highest-leverage techniques and drills for each of these core areas: Neutral, Bottom, Top, Defense, and Pinning.
The System: A Weekly Practice Plan
A list of moves is useless without a plan to implement them.
The most valuable part of this new resource is the Weekly Wrestling Practice Plan. It gives you a full, 5-day schedule that shows you how to structure your time on the mat, with a specific focus for each day:
- Monday: Sharpening your attacks.
- Tuesday: Mastering your escape.
- Wednesday: Becoming a hammer on top.
- Friday: Winning the scrambles.
- Saturday: Simulating the grind of a real match.
This is a direct look at how elite college programs structure their week to ensure every position is covered, every situation is drilled, and the athlete is prepared for the intensity of a real match.
How to Use This Resource
Do not get overwhelmed by the amount of information on this page. Your job is not to master all of it at once. Your job is to do two things:
- Identify your ONE best attack, escape, and ride. Go to war with those. Drill them until they are automatic and unstoppable.
- Follow the weekly template. It provides the structure. You plug in your chosen techniques.
This blueprint, combined with the daily S&C work we do, is the complete system. This is how you forge a champion.
The blueprint is there. The plan is laid out. Your job is to execute.
Go study it. Live by it.
